Between Dinan (24 km east) and Saint-Brieuc (40 km west) it is nestled between the two lakes Étang Jugon and Lac Arguenon. The distance to the sea is about 20 km ( English Channel , French "La Manche"); it is around 50 km to Saint-Malo in the northeast. The national route N 176 / Europastraße 401 runs north of the town , a few kilometers south is the N 12 / Europastraße 50 . The place is at the confluence of the Rosette with the Arguenon .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1034 in connection with the construction of the castle, which is attributed to Eudon (or Odo), the first Duke of Penthièvre. Since the 12th century it has been in the hands of the Lords of Dinan, who bequeathed lands to Marmoutier Abbey so that a priory could be established there. In the 13th century the area fell to Pierre de Dreux, Duke of Brittany. In the 14th century, during the War of the Breton Succession , the castle changed hands several times until it was finally back in ducal hands. At the behest of Charles V, however, it was withdrawn from him again in 1373 after he is said to have made a pact with the English. In 1616 the castle was finally destroyed. An administrative and trading center was created on its site.
In 1973 the former municipality was formed by merging the places Jugon, Lescouët-Jugon and Saint-Igneuc. The history of the place is closely linked to the water, as the community lies between two watercourses that drove several mills and were also used for textile dyeing. Sheep breeding as a supplier of wool also had a long tradition in the area.
With effect from January 1, 2016, the former municipality of Dolo was merged with Jugon-les-Lacs and together they form a Commune nouvelle called Jugon-les-Lacs - Commune nouvelle.
