The Bavarian Center for Applied Energy Research e. V. , or ZAE Bayern for short, is a non-university research institute that is institutionally funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy . The institute offers complete research and innovation packages in the field of efficient and sustainable energy systems. Its two main locations are in Würzburg and Garching near Munich , three branch offices in Hof , Arzberg and Nuremberg .

Since it was founded in December 1991, the association has had the goal of promoting energy research as well as providing training, further education and training, advice, information and documentation in all areas that are important for energy technology and the sciences concerned with it.

Research and skills

The central research and competence areas of the ZAE include renewable energies , energy storage and energy efficiency . In addition, the institute deals with application-oriented material research , component development and system optimization and the integration of these research fields in various projects that are implemented with industrial partners of all sizes, university and non-university research partners.
