Alexander Brenner (doctor)

Alexander Brenner (born February 22, 1859 in Vienna , † October 27, 1936 in Linz ) was an Austrian doctor.

Life

Alexander Brenner was born the son of a butcher in Vienna and studied medicine at the University of Vienna (doctorate in 1882). He was a demonstrator of anatomy and a student of Theodor Billroth and Dittel, the founders of urology in Vienna. In 1888, Brenner was appointed primary at the Linz General Hospital as the successor to the late primary Dirnhofer. Brenner was largely responsible for the expansion of the Linz General Hospital and carried out 50,000 operations in around 40 years. He was the medical director of the AKh, until 1928 head of the surgical department and head of the rescue company. Brenner introduced modern surgery in Upper Austria.

Furthermore, Brenner was chairman and sponsor of the ÖTB Linz. Brenner owned a house on Bismarckstrasse in Linz and a country house in Nussdorf am Attersee .

His son Axel Brenner was also a doctor and director of the Linz General Hospital.
