The Marienkirche Untergeng is in the municipality of Eidenberg in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic branch church of the Assumption of Mary of the parish church of Gramastetten belongs to the dean's office of Gallneukirchen in the diocese of Linz .

history

The plans for a church building in Untergeng go back a long way, and they were followed up in 1950. A delegation of four Untergeng residents tried to get the church built at the Linz Ordinariat. The approval of the abbot of Wilhering Abbey also had to be obtained, as the church is located in the Wilhering parish of Gramastetten. After Bishop Coadjutor Franz Zauner also approved the construction on behalf of the Bishop, the plan was implemented by the population. Franziska Neumüller donated the building site, the church building association was founded on November 26, 1950, and the building permit was obtained. The design comes from the architect Hans Foschum , senior building officer of the state building management.

The foundation stone was laid on May 14, 1951, and Bishop Coadjutor Franz Zauner consecrated the Church of the Assumption of Mary on May 24, 1953.

In 2000, the chancel was redesigned by Wolfgang Stifter and a people's altar was erected, which was consecrated on December 4, 2000 by Abbot Gottfried Hemmelmayr.

Catholic churches are usually owned by the parishes, but the Marienkirche Untergeng is owned by the church building association. It is the only association church in Upper Austria and one of only three Catholic association churches in Austria.
