Wolfgang Stifter (* 1946 in Ottensheim ) is an Austrian painter , graphic artist and university professor .

From 1991 to 2000 he was the rector of the Linz University of Art and Design .

Live and act

Stifter grew up in his father's studio, Alfred Stifter ( art teacher and glass artist). After attending the Stiftsgymnasium Wilhering he studied from 1964 to 1970 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna a . a. with the graphic artist Maximilian Melcher . Between 1974 and 1977 he built a residential studio house planned by Wilhelm Holzbauer. He completed studies in Chengdu and Paliano and a studio stay in Ballens sur Morges . In 2010 he built the Atelier Im Weingarten based on plans by Viola Stifter.

From 1989 until his retirement in 2014 he was a full university professor at the Art University Linz. From 1991 to 2000 he was rector there. From 1997 to 2001 he was chairman of the regional cultural advisory board of the Upper Austrian regional government. Stifter is a member of the artists' association MAERZ and the artist group Schloss Parz . His brother is the painter and graphic artist Georg Stifter .

Works

  • A number of Stifter's works were created as art in public space or as art in buildings . As a printmaker, he created works that range between calligraphy, Chinese characters and impulsive ciphers. Some of his works are in the art collection of the province of Upper Austria.
