Petrus Trefflinger

Petrus Trefflinger OSB (* 1912 in Feldkirchen an der Donau ; † February 7, 1966 in Altenmarkt near Sankt Gallen ) was an Austrian Benedictine and from 1947 to 1952 abbot of Lambach Abbey .

Life

Petrus Trefflinger was born in Feldkirchen an der Donau in 1912. In 1947, the then about 35-year-old was elected abbot and in this function among others in the fall of 1948 for the relocation of the Christ the King home from Engelszell into Lambach responsible. In the same year the grammar school of the Benedictine monastery Lambach was built , whereby the Christkönigsheim was still used as a boarding school. In 1950, Prelate Trefflinger was one of the church people who were present at the bell consecration of the Marchtrenk parish church . A year earlier, on November 6, 1949, he consecrated four new bells in the parish church of Vöcklamarkt in a large ceremony and over the years was also present at various other bell consecrations in the area of ​​the Diocese of Linz .

In 1951, Father Petrus took part in the role of the monk Magnus in the feature film The Gate to Peace , which was also shot in Mariazell , among other places . About two years before the actual film shoot, Leopoldine Kytka came with her first film manuscript and accompanied by the Viennese production manager Dr. Josef Lebzelter approaches Trefflinger. At his own request, Trefflinger was subsequently added to the cast list, with an actor specially hired for his role from Vienna being unloaded. Another priest and the pastor of Mariazell were also on the cast list for the feature film. In the end he not only worked as an actor, but was also entrusted with the film as a religious advisor or, as was later to be read in the opening credits , entrusted with the church management .

Less than a year after the film appeared, he was deposed as abbot by the Religious Congregation in 1952 . Before that he worked, among other things, in the winter of 1952 in the consecration of the new church bells in the parish church of Neukirchen near Lambach . His later work is now only vaguely traceable, although he was pastor of Altenmarkt near Sankt Gallen when he died in 1966 . He was then buried in Lambach, Upper Austria .
