The Roman Catholic old parish church Marchtrenk (also: Friedhofskirche Marchtrenk ) is located in the municipality of Marchtrenk in the district of Wels-Land in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to St. Stephen and belongs to the Marchtrenk parish in the Wels-Land dean's office in the Linz diocese . The building and the former cemetery are under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

Marchtrenk is first mentioned in a document in 1299 in the Stiftsurbar in Kremsmünster . The Gothic , single-nave church was built at the end of the 15th century. In 1784 Marchtrenk becomes an independent parish in the course of the Josephine reforms , after previously belonging to the Hörsching parish . In addition to the parish itself, the parish includes the villages of Au, Kappern, Leithen, In der Haide, Oberneufahrn, and Oberperwend. Unterhardt was later added by exchanging houses in sheep meadows from the suburban parish of Wels. After a lightning strike in 1846 with a subsequent fire, the church tower was repaired again and received its current shape. In 1881 the church was expanded and rebuilt, including adding four fathoms to the choir or nave and adding a new sacristy. After the church became too small in the 1950s, a new parish center with a parish church was built on the opposite side of the main road in the early 1970s . The old parish church remained and has been used as a cemetery church ever since.
