history

The wide parish, reaching from the Danube to St. Oswald near Haslach (ecclesia Veltchirchen), was mentioned in a document in 1143 for a parish swap, the parish went to the St. Florian monastery , the parish was occupied by world priests until 1653.

The choir was mentioned in a document in 1322, the vault of the choir was built around the middle of the 15th century, the nave was built in the end of the 15th century and in the first quarter of the 16th century. In the second half of the 18th century late baroque redesigns took place, with the construction of the north chapel and a vault and probably an increase in the sacristy and the addition of a chapel to the choir head in the east. Restorations were inside 1950, 1972/1974 and 1997, outside 1977 and 1981.

architecture

The parish church is a remarkable Gothic building with an early Gothic defense tower freestanding in front of the west side.

The late Gothic nave is a broad, three-aisled, three-bay staggered hall with ribbed vaults. The retracted two-bay Gothic choir with a five-eighth closure has ribbed vaults. In the corners of the choir there are two-storey similarly designed late Baroque extensions, a chapel to the north and the sacristy to the south. The mighty free-standing church tower and former defensive tower stands in the longitudinal axis just in front of the western front of the nave.

The nave and choir show buttresses and a base with differently profiled cornices.

The interior of the nave is open to the lower aisles with wide, pointed arcades on octagonal pillars.

Furnishing
