Karl Rehberger
Karl Rehberger (born December 5, 1934 in Linz ; † January 31, 2018 ) was an Austrian priest , historian , archivist , librarian and university professor .
Life
Rehberger grew up in Feldkirchen an der Donau , graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Wilhering and entered the Augustinian Canons of St. Florian on August 27, 1955 , where he took the perpetual religious vows on August 28, 1959 . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1961 .
Rehberger first studied philosophy at the University of Salzburg from 1956 to 1958 and then from 1958 to 1961 theology at the Philosophical-Theological Home School of the St. Florian Monastery. In 1964 he received his doctorate in theology and in 1968 his doctorate in philosophy. In 1965 he passed the state examination at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research and taught canon law , church history , patrology and liturgical studies in Sankt Florian from 1965 to 1969 .
As archivist, librarian and curator of the monastery collections, he managed more than 150,000 volumes in the monastery library and around 800 manuscripts in the archive from 1965 onwards . In 1965 he became a member of the Institute for Austrian Historical Research.
From 1970 until his retirement in 2000 he was professor for patrology and church history of antiquity at the Catholic Private University of the Diocese of Linz and from 1973 also at the Pedagogical Academy of the Diocese of Linz . From 1979 the focus of his lectures on Austrian church history was on the history of the Diocese of Linz . From 1992 to 1995 he also held lectureships for patrology and church history at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Passau . Rehberger was a board member of the Association of Austrian Archivists and the Upper Austrian Museum Association . He was a member of the Austrian sub-commission of the International Commission for Comparative Church History.
Rehberger is the author of numerous books and writings and has been a speaker at various exhibitions.
