The dam Chungju is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the province of North Chungcheong , South Korea . It dams the slope to a reservoir. The associated power plant has an installed capacity of 400 MW . About 6 km southwest of the dam is the city of Chungju .
The dam was built from 1978 to 1985. In addition to generating electricity, it is also used for flood protection and drinking water supply. The dam is owned by Korea Water Resources Corporation .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a gravity dam made of concrete with a height of 97.5 (or 98) m. The length of the top of the wall is 447 m. The volume of the structure is 902,000 (or 926,000) m³.
Reservoir
When fully blocked , the reservoir extends over an area of around 50.8 (or 66.48) km² and holds 2.75 billion m³ of water; this makes it the largest lake in South Korea.
power plant
The power plant has an installed capacity of 400 (or 412) MW . Each of the 4 machines in the power plant has a maximum output of 100 MW. The machine house is on the right side of the river at the foot of the dam.
