history

Mamling Castle, copper engraving by Michael Wening , 1721

The first mention of a castle in Mamling comes from 1297, when an Otto von Mamling is mentioned. The Mamlingers remained in possession of the castle until 1519. In that year Friedrich the Mamlinger sold the property to Wolfgang Elrechinger zu Hueb . The Elrechinger had a crypt chapel as a burial place in Mining . Wolf Rudolf Golt von Lampoting appeared as the heir to the Elreching family around 1610. In 1619 he sold Mamling to Count Helfrich von Meggau. Around 1650 ownership passed to the barons of Lerchenfeld. Johann Kaspar Freiherr von Lerchenfeld had the old castle demolished and a moated castle with a chapel built in its place . According to the engraving by Michael Wening , Mamling was a one-story building with onion domes and surrounded by a pond. The palace chapel and a park were located outside the trench . The chapel next to the castle was built in 1671. In 1675, a benifit was donated by Johann Kaspar Freiherr von Lerchenfeld.

Maria Franziska von Lerchenfeld received the castle in 1710 as a marriage property when she married Count Johann Wilhelm von Abensperg-Traun . The marriage remained childless and the property went to the Counts of Törring-Jettenbach in 1748. Heinrich von Bohn from Munich acquired the castle in 1831, who also had no direct descendants when he died in 1848. Until 1848 Mamling had the bailiwick and jurisdiction. Baron Christian von Esebeck bought the palace and united it with Sunzing . Count Zdenko von Strachwitz acquired both properties in 1870. It was under him that it was converted to its present form. The former turrets have been removed and most of the pond has been filled in. After his death in 1919, Mamling passed into civil ownership. The buyer was the builder Franz Wiesner from Altheim. In 1921 he handed the castle over to his daughter Juliana, married Achleitner. The castle is still owned by this family today.

Mamling Castle today

Today Mamling Castle is a completely renovated two-story castle building. A tower-like, but now square porch is reminiscent of the earlier tower with an onion dome. The castle is surrounded by a well-tended park. Compared to the surrounding lawns, the castle stands a little higher, perhaps as a reminder of the filled-in moat . The castle chapel is to be renovated in 2015. A coat of arms emblem reminds of the previous owners.

Numerous events give the castle a new use. The Mamling Castle Spring Festival, the Metalfest Open Air Austria 2012, the Afrika Fest or the Spring Festival 2012 - art, culture, culinary art are worthy of mention.
