history

A Wernherr von Winzberg (* around 1190, † 1227) is the first known; he was married to Helene, daughter of Ulrich von Tannberg . Wernher de Winzberch appears in a document in 1260. 1309 Wilhalm de Winsperger is called, 1329 the Veste Winsperg and what goes with it. The Winzbergers were servants of the Tannberger . From 1397 onwards they are considered to be extinct or migrated.

Burgstall Winzberg today

The remains of Winsberg Castle lie on a slope spur of the Öxlau to the Danube and within sight of Neuhaus Castle. The Burgstall can only be reached by experienced people.

The moat is drawn in a semicircle from slope side to slope side. The slope towards the Danube is littered with the ruins of the castle (hewn cuboids). The cause of the deterioration is unknown. Ceramic finds were made and the complex is a listed building .
