Walkering Castle

Walkering Castle is located in the Walkering district of the municipality of Vöcklamarkt in the Vöcklabruck district of Upper Austria (Walkering 1).

history

Walkering is first mentioned in 1320 as a Schaunberg fiefdom, which was given to the lordship of Kammer . Walkering is mentioned in the Schaunberger land register of 1371. After the Schaunberger's defeat in their feud against the Habsburgs, Walkering came to the sovereign. In 1380 Duke Albrecht III enfeoffed the Rüdiger Dachsenbeck with Walkering, in 1395 the fiefdom was renewed by Duke Albrecht IV . 1423 Paul Walchinger is named as the fief holder. Under the Walchingers in 1455 the rule of Walkering was merged with that of Viecht , with the jurisdiction in Viecht. Therefore, the later owners called themselves either "from and to Walkering to Viecht" or "from Walkering to Viecht".

In 1515 a Hans Forster von Höhenperg is named on Walkering, in 1559 the Oberdorfer zu Gaisbach and in 1566 the Frondorfer von Walkering zu Viecht call themselves. From the last Frondorf named Hanns, the rule was inherited by the Wiellinger von Au. One Ernst (1570) and one Wilhelm (1630) are named. In 1633 Walkering and Viecht were owned by an Abraham Walkeringer. In 1665 Walkering was owned by the Passau Chamber of Commerce Wilhelm Venerand Link von und zu Walkering auf Viecht. Other owners were: Franz von Rechling (1682–1693), Johann Felix Exenschläger (1723), Anton Neuburg, Edler von Ehrburg and Roman Imperial Knight (1731), Johann Geislitzer von Wittweng (17590 and 1756), Franz Josef Guldermann (1769), Marianne Schaffenrath (1778), Josef Erasmus Schwarzäugl and his son (1782); they sold the castle to Herr Meergraf and he again to Baron von Stümpfl. In 1837 Baron Thaddäus von Reischach appears as the owner, in 1844 the glass manufacturer Wenzel Stimpfl from Freudenthal owned the noble seat. The reason given for the frequent change of ownership is the low income from Walkering and Viecht: around 1750, the lordship included 32 subjects, of whom an income of 277  florins was paid to the lordship.

In the 19th century, Walkering came into rural possession of the Emminger family . Walkeing is still a farm today and is owned by this family.

description

As can be seen in the engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1674, Walkering was once surrounded by a wall. A church-like building can be seen on the engraving. The name Fiecht refers to the noble seat Viecht , which was merged with Walkering to form a Fideikommiss . All defensive structures have been removed or leveled today after the castle was converted into a farm.

The complex consists of a two-storey mansion with a hipped roof on a rectangular base. There is a (pilgrim?) Shell above the entrance portal . The building is flanked by two semicircular towers that date from around 1600. Opposite the castle is the associated farm building. The north-west tower is connected to the stable wing by an archway. There is no longer a connection between the right tower and the utility wing, but it can be assumed due to layers of plaster . The tower windows are equipped with wrought iron window baskets. Both towers are connected to the mansion's hip roof and have broken tent roofs . The right tower is used for economic purposes, the left one houses the castle chapel . This is consecrated to Our Lady. It contains a late Gothic Madonna and a baroque altar . The dates 1322 and 1733 are engraved at the feet of Mary.
