Innernstein is a place in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria as well as a cadastral municipality and a place of the market town of Münzbach and a place of the municipality of Bad Kreuzen in the district of Perg . Innernstein Castle is named after it . Innernstein was an independent political municipality from 1848 to the end of 1937.

Innernstein is located about 30 kilometers east of Linz , 9 kilometers east of Perg , and 8½ kilometers north of the Danube. The place is halfway between Münzbach in the west and Bad Kreuzen in the east, each 3 km away from these, at around 300 m above sea level. A. Höhe, on the southern edge of the Mühlviertel highlands to the east end the Machland , to the right of the Klambach . It belongs to the Upper Austrian spatial unit Aist-Naarn-Kuppenland , the eastern part on the Klambach already belongs to the southern Mühlviertel outskirts .
Innerstein cadastral community
The cadastral community, located in the eastern and northern part of the market town of Münzbach, has 566 inhabitants (2001 census), which consists of the Rotten Danndorf (36 inhabitants), Sulzbach (91) and Untergaisberg (76) as well as the scattered settlements of Innernstein (82), Obergaisberg (141 ) and Saxenegg (140). The castle ruin Saxenegg , from which the village Saxenegg owes its name, is located near the municipality boundary in the area of the municipality of St. Thomas am Blasenstein and has almost completely fallen into disrepair.
Within the cadastral municipality, a series of height information is shown on the basemap, such as a. at the Oberkurz farm at 598 m above sea level. In the west, the Kropfmühlbach forms the border with the cadastral community of Pergkirchen in the city of Perg , in the east the Kefermühlbach forms the border with the communities of St. Thomas am Blasenstein and Bad Kreuzen. The Sulzbach rises in the village of Sulzbach and flows north of Innernstein Castle in an eastward direction until it joins the Kefermühlbach at the border of the cadastral community. In the north, the Hinterbergbach coming from Rechberg flows at the border before it flows into the Saxeneggerbach , which then finally drains into the Kefermühlbach. The sword mill was located along the Schwertmüllerbach . The valley of the Kefermühlbach was a mill valley in earlier centuries. Inner stone village
The village of Innernstein extends in the southeast partially into the cadastral community of Kreuzen of the market town of Bad Kreuzen, where the Klambach forms the border.

history
Historical numbers of houses and residents are available for Innernstein and Saxenegg:
- In the village of Innernstein there were 16 houses in 1788, 17 in 1809, 22 in 1825 with 114 residents and 16 in 1869 with 89 residents. In the 20th century there were 25 houses with 130 residents in 1951, and 26 houses with 119 residents in 1961. This information includes the parts of the village belonging to the market town of Bad Kreuzen. The part of the village allotted to Münzbach had 17 houses with 94 residents in 1951, 18 houses with 77 residents in 1961, 18 houses with 88 residents in 1971, 19 houses with 88 residents in 1981, 23 houses with 72 residents in 1991 and 23 houses with 82 residents in 2001.
- In 1809 there were 22 houses in the village of Saxenegg. In 1825 there were 133 residents in 21 houses, in 1869 in 23 houses 166 people, in 1951 in 23 houses with 125 people, 1961 in 23 houses with 129 people, in 1971 in 23 houses with 133 people, in 1981 in 25 houses with 133 people, in 1991 in 30 houses with 144 people 2001 in 32 houses 140 residents.
At the beginning of the 1920s, the municipality of Innernstein, like many other municipalities, issued emergency money. In 1934 the Obernstrasse voluntary fire brigade was founded and a fire station was built in Obergaisberg , which was expanded and modernized in 1969, 1992 and 2007.

Economy and Infrastructure

In the south-west, the L1423 forms the border to the cadastral community of Münzbach for a short distance. Shortly after Münzbach, this road comes back to the cadastral community of Innernstein, leads through the villages of Danndorf, Innerstein and Untergaisberg and then leads towards Klam. The L1434 reaches the cadastral community of Innernstein at Rammelhof and leaves it at Haslmühle in the direction of St. Thomas am Blasenstein.
Infrastructure
The Obernstrasse voluntary fire brigade was founded in 1934, consisted of 17 firefighters in the first year and after the purchase of equipment and the construction of a fire station in 1936, it was assigned the compulsory areas of Ober- and Untergaisberg, Danndorf, Innernstein, Pilgram and the eastern part of Mollnegg. During the Second World War, the independent fire brigade was dissolved and joined the Münzbach fire brigade as the third fire brigade. After the war, it was decided to work closely with the Münzbach fire department in 1950. The fire station, originally made of wood, was electrified in 1955 and replaced by a brick building in 1969, which was rebuilt in 1992 and expanded in 2007. In 2008 the fire brigade had a membership of 79 comrades. She takes care of fire protection and general help.
Culture and sights
The privately owned Schloss Innernstein , which has been thoroughly renovated in recent years, including its castle chapel, is significant .
In the village of Innernstein there are several small monuments that are maintained or renewed by the respective builders or their descendants.
- Eppich Chapel: Chapel next to the Innernstein access road with several images of the Virgin Mary and a picture of St. Anthony of Padua.
- Hofbauer Chapel: In the chapel, consecrated in 1946, there is a depiction of St. Leonhard as the patron of the cattle with a cow and horse, as well as several images of Mary.
