Luftenberg Castle
Luftenberg Castle is the castle-like Meierhof of Luftenberg Castle in the Upper Austrian market town of Luftenberg on the Danube .
description
While the old fortress Burg Luftenberg was left to decay from the middle of the 17th century , the associated Meierhof was generously expanded into a castle-like building (Neu-Luftenberg). This consists of two opposite, elongated wings, which are connected in the middle by a transverse wing. On the connecting central tract there is a gate with a turret with an onion helmet that was removed after a fire.

The middle wing forms two courtyards, each closed with a wall. The gate in the wall of the rear courtyard made the direct connection to the castle. The front wall of the front courtyard had a gate with flanking round towers, which were however removed. The trench dug in front of the flat foreland was passable via a movable bridge.
Luftenberg Castle housed a trotter stud around 1901, was a refuge for people from the former Gusen concentration camp in the days after the Second World War and has been part of the Linz Golf Club Luftenberg since 1990 .
