The castle Kühschlag is an Outbound hilltop castle on 720  m above sea level. A. in the municipality of St. Johann am Wimberg in the Rohrbach district of Upper Austria . The sparse remains of the abandoned castle are around 0.2 km northeast of the Kirchschlager property.

history

Chueslag was first mentioned in 1316. Anna, the wife of Niclas Meschenperger, received the seat of Duke Albrecht IV as a fief in 1396 . The presumed previous owner was her father, but his name has not been proven. Successors were Simon Aspan and his wife Kunigunde. The family ties between the latter and Anna mentioned above must remain open, but it is assumed that these were sisters. Until the end of the 15th century, the Aspan were resident on Kühschlag. It is not known when the seat was abandoned and the associated farm (Kirschlag, Kirchschlager) was inherited. In any case, in 1615 this farm was considered to have been inherited for a long time.

Burgstall Kühschlag today

In the 60s of the last century, an east-facing wall section with beautifully hewn ashlar stones is mentioned. However, the Hausberg-like complex was removed a few decades ago; According to local tradition, the stones are also said to have been used for building churches. Nowadays, the former site, an elevation overgrown with bushes, is covered with stones and trees. The name Schlosshügel is common for the Burgstall .

The Kirchschlager property includes a chapel that is said to have belonged to Kühschlag Castle. This chapel has very well preserved vaults and a dowelled tram ceiling on the first floor ; the chapel is today as a carriage remise used the first floor as a granary .
