Sierning Castle today

The Sierning Castle is located in the town of Sierning in Upper Austria's Steyr-Land District (flyover 2).

history

The castle was a Passau sovereign seat and arose from the former rectory belonging to the cathedral chapter. The renovation was completed in 1588 by the canons Georg Gotthardt and Johann von Tattenböck. In 1611 the village and Sierning Castle were taken by the Passau soldiers under their commandant Ramee. During the peasant wars , Stefan Fadinger had his seat here. From here he agreed with the city judge of Steyr Madlseder that the city should be surrendered without a fight. From 1754 until the secularization of 1803 Sierning was owned by the Passau cathedral chapter. In 1803 it came into the possession of the Austrian state, in 1805 it was declared to be kuk camera rule and in 1805 as the property of the imperial court. In 1827 the legation secretary Theodor Ritter von Kast bought the Sierning estate. In 1850 this passed to Llewellyn Freiherrn von Kast. Sophie Baronin von Kast followed in 1880 and Michael Baron von Kast from 1895 to 1935. From this it was sold to the inn owner Krennhuber.

The run-down castle was finally bought in 1969 by the municipality of Sierning and renovated by the Traunviertel cultural association and the municipality of Sierning.

Sierning Castle today

The building is already shown in the Hagerschen Schlossbüchel from 1661. The two-wing renaissance castle dates back to 1588. Further alterations were made around 1670 by the canons Siegbert von Geilenkirchen and Thomas von Kandlberg. It is characterized by an arcade facing the courtyard . These arcades were closed by commercial buildings before the renovation. An annex was added to the building to house the Sierning municipal office.
