Sachsenburg hunting lodge
The imperial hunting lodge Sachsenburg was located in the district Neubau of the municipality Hörsching in the district Linz-Land . The castle is, how on the engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer can see because of this local localization and castle construction , New Sachsenburg and because of its earmarking country Princely Forsthaus new building .
History of the Sachsenburg hunting lodge
When exactly the wild bans of the former Steyregg hunting area on the Kürnberg came to the sovereign is not known; this was probably the case around 1512. In order to take advantage of the hunting opportunities on the Kürnberg, Emperor Maximilian I , who was a passionate hunter, had a hunting lodge built in the village of Neubau between 1515 and 1518. The demolition material from the Kürnberg Castle (or the so-called Altsachsenburg) was possibly used . This interpretation is controversial, however, it may well be that the material was simply taken from the summit of the Kürnberg .
The Sachsenburg was fiercely contested during the peasant uprising of 1525, but was successfully defended by Captain Schifer. In 1752 the Sachsenburg came to the Kremsmünster Abbey . In 1802 the building was sold to Johann Minimayr. He had it removed down to one floor; this remaining building was used as an Aryan powder tower.
description
As you can see from the engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer, Schloss Neubau was a tall three-storey building with four watch towers at the corners and a clock tower in the second window axis that protruded slightly from the building. The wall surrounding the castle had a fortified tower at each corner.
The so-called "Kellerstöckl" opposite the barracks remained of the castle as a small remainder. Until before the Second World War , a plaque with the following inscription is said to have been attached to the gable of the cellar floor:
Saxnburg bin ich genant vor tausnt Jarn Am Körnberg wol pekant.
This plaque is said to have originally hung above the entrance to the castle, now it is on a residential building in Sachsenburgweg. The Kellerstöckl was also demolished a few years ago. In the surrounding gardens, foundation walls of the Sachsenburg can still be seen.
