Teichstätt Castle is a castle in the village of Teichstätt , Lengau municipality , Braunau am Inn district in Upper Austria .

history

The place Teichstätt was already in a Mondsee tradition at the time of Duke Tassilo III. referred to as Tista ti , but a residence was not built until 700 years later .

The history of the castle begins with its first documentary mention in the Friedburger Urbar , which was laid out between 1363 and 1430. Teichstätt Castle appears as Thoman des Rewter lehen [...] Hof zu Teystett . From 1483 at the latest, the castle has been owned by the Rainer , because in that year an Alexius Rainer named himself after Teichstätt and the neighboring castle Erb, both of which were Bavarian fiefdoms. In the year 1558 the Bavarian country table says about Teichstätt: In the village of Teichstätt there is a Purkstal and a Pauhof, which Ludewig Rainer owns. Today's palace was built in its present form from 1563 to 1566 under Ludwig Rainer . This was also the nurse of Frankenburg .

The Rainer remained in possession of the castle until 1591, when Kasimir Rainer zu Erb und Teichstätt sold it to Hans Albrecht von Pirching zu Sigharting . As early as 1593, the castle was sold on to the Burghauser regimental councilor Dr Georg Hägl . Since he could not raise the purchase price, the Bavarian civil servant Dr Johann Fischer from Burghausen was found as the new buyer of the Teichstätt Castle in 1597, who was appointed government chancellor and fiefdom of Burghausen in September 1600. In 1659 the castle burned down almost completely, but was rebuilt by Franz Vischer , albeit in a simplified manner.

The Vischer remained in the possession of the castle until 1732. In that year, the heiress Maria Anna Constantia Theresia Vischer married Paul Anton Joseph von Hackledt , whereby the property came to the Hackledt family . Maria Cäcilia Carolina von Hackled sold Teichstätt Castle on August 26, 1833 for 3,100 guilders to the patrimonial judge of Braunau, Wenzel Schüga. His son-in-law Matthias Schrems owned the castle from 1855 to 1879, and its properties were converted into a farm in the course of the 19th century.

From 1879 the property came to Franz Moser from Ameisberg, who had the loopholes walled up and also removed all other defensive installations that were still in place. His descendants still run the former castle today as an agricultural business ( castle builders ).

Building description

The castle is located on a long, low ridge above the Schwemmbach and can be recognized from a wide radius from the east by its two massive round towers. However, if you approach from the west, the building is more reminiscent of a large farm than a castle. The main building is elongated and measures around 35 × 10 meters. At the entrance on the west side, a red marble plaque with a double coat of arms of the Rainer and the Gienger reminds of the building of the castle by Ludwig Rainer in 1563.

Dis gepey began with
Edl vnd vesst
ludwig Rainer as

time Phleg [er] on
Franckenburg in Anno 1 5 6 3
and on the third year

To the west of the main building are the approaches of a north and a south wing. These side wings used to be longer and were torn down after a fire in 1659 (some of the foundations can still be seen). The two round towers, which were previously covered with wooden shingles, have been covered with clay tiles like all roofs since the last restoration. The use of the former castle for agriculture required some additions and adaptations, but some wrought-iron window baskets and remarkable vaults in the interior still reveal the castle-like character of the main building.
