The Sigharting Castle stands in the town Sigharting in Innviertel in Upper Austria . The castle is a listed building .

history

The building as a moated castle was erected in 1570 by Hector von Pürching instead of a previous building as a Hofmarkschloss and initially served as the manor of Hofmark Sigharting. The moat was filled in again in the 18th century. After the Pürchinger population died out, the castle came to Count Hans Adolph von Tattenbach on St. Martin on September 7, 1639 , who auctioned most of the furniture. As a result, the building only housed the lordly administrator and hunter. In 1870 the Sigharting community bought the castle for 3,000  guilders , as the castle housed various basic functions of the place from the 19th century. It housed the parish chancellery from 1850 to 1950, the elementary school from 1837 to 1970 and the gendarmerie from 1936 to 1950.

From 1975 to 1983, the building was renovated with funds from the State of Upper Austria and the Federal Ministry of Science and Research and through own contributions from the Association for the Promotion of Contemporary Art (CdB) in Linz.

Today the castle serves as a local museum and as a cultural center for various concerts and exhibitions.

architecture

The three-storey square square courtyard measures around 23 x 23 meters. Inside there is a remarkable arcade courtyard , which is decorated on two floors with the coats of arms of the Lords of Pürching and their wives. The old wooden ceilings are still preserved.
