The Postal Meggenhofen (medieval seat Mekchenhoven is) an Outbound Wasserburg in the municipality Meggenhofen in Grieskirchen of Upper Austria . The fortified wooden structure originally supposed to be here was located in the lowland between the church and the Pfarrhofsberg and was previously characterized by the Kadingerteich. Today the children's playground is located here.

history

A Eigil de meginhofen is mentioned in 1120. 1170 Sigibert (Sigibrant) de meckinhoven is listed. In the fief book of Duke Albrecht III. Castle Meggenhofen is mentioned by Austria in 1380, but it belonged to the Starhemberg rule . The seat was mentioned as follows: "Wernhart the Tutschenberger has a fiefdom that gechlozz zu Meckchenhofen" . In 1386 a Heinrich Fleischhacker is mentioned here. In 1388 the owners are Stefan Geymann , Wolfgang Tutschenberger and Friedrich Chikner. In 1416 Pschenke Ketringer lived here. 1429 “the Sicz zu Mekchenhofen vnd the Pawhof des Mert Ketringen” are mentioned. An attack from the 16th century calls a "Burchstall Meggenhouven" . In this it says: "Nothing else has been built, only a pond and a garden, since before times the seat stood". This indicates that the seat was already lost at that time.

Burgstall Meggenhofen in the Franziszeischen cadastre, created between 1817 and 1861

Burgstall Meggenhofen today

In the Franziszeischen cadastre there was still a clearly recognizable lower castle ( Inselburgstall , circular moat). This must have been leveled; it is not known exactly when. During the construction of a park or a children's playground in 1970, the rest of the stakes were found, so that the reports about a former moated castle should be correct. Wood residues were also found when a new house was built on the neighboring property.
