The Habichrigl Castle , also Habichriegl called, is a former castle in Upper Austria . It is in the village of Riegl , around one kilometer west of Bad Zell in the Mühlviertel . It was owned by Regensburg around 1200 , came under the Prandegg rule in the 17th century and is now a farm .

history

It was first mentioned in a document around 1200, when the castle was owned by Regensburg. At that time it was a fiefdom of the lords of chapels . Around 1280, the Mauthausen judge Heinrich Rigelarus is named as the owner . After the Rigel family, the castle was handed over to the Habichlers in 1366. This gave the castle its current name Habichriegl. The name Rigel changed over time to Riegl, like the name of the current district.

The following were recorded as Habichler: Friedrich around 1408, Wolf and Konrad around 1438, Georg around 1483. Georg von Habichler sold the castle in 1483 to the pastor of Zwettl , Andres Königsteiner. His successor, Christoph Walch, sold it to Georg von Hoheneck. The building was later sold to Joachim Stangl von Waldenfels. On July 25, 1596, it came into the possession of the Jörger , who later acquired the castles Zellhof and Aich (both near Bad Zell).

Habichrigl today

As avowed Protestants , the Jörgers finally had to sell their entire property (Prandegg, Markt Zell, Zellhof Castle, Pranthof (Gutau municipality), Habichrigl Castle, Aich Castle and all other courtyards and tithe) to Gotthard von Scherffenberg , Herr auf Spielberg, in 1631 . But he died soon afterwards and his widow married Hans Reichard von Starhemberg in 1636 . The widow von Scherffenberg sold the castles Aich, Habichrigl and Zellhof in 1645 to her son-in-law Georg Siegmund von Salburg , the owner of Prandegg. From then on, the castle remained in the possession of this family for a longer period.

In 1918 the Zausinger family followed, then Schönerl and their descendants.

construction

Due to renovations, not much can be seen of the original castle today. In 1923 the watch towers that gave the building its castle-like appearance were demolished and the castle partially modernized. It was probably during this time that the farm was converted into the current farm.
