The Aich Castle is a former castle in Upper Austria . It is located around 1.5 kilometers northeast of Bad Zell in the Mühlviertel . Around 1220 the castle belonged to the Zellhof rulership , was a small country castle and is now a farm, Mair in Aich with the farm name . It is a listed building.

history

Around 1220 the castle belonged to the Zellhof rulership. In the 13th century the castle was demolished and a castle was built instead, only the defense tower remained.

In 1422 the Lords of Tannpeck (also: Tannbacken) are named as owners. As a result, the chaplains bought the castle and the associated Maierhof, the Tannpeckhof, and became the feudal lords of the Tannpecks. Kaspar Tannpeck and his son Hans surrendered their two castles, Aich and Windhaag, to the enemies of Emperor Friedrich III during the Hungarian War (around 1477) . without a fight. They were then captured and charged with treason in 1485. Their possessions were confiscated and the fiefdom was declared forfeit. From 1485 the castle belonged to Mr Laßla Prager and Ulrich von Starhemberg . Regina Tannpeck , the daughter of Hans Tannpeck, married Laßla Prager. In 1492 the liege lord of the chapels, Christoph von Lichtenstein , renounced the castle in favor of Regina. Laßla Prager was enfeoffed with Windhaag Castle by the emperor . The marriage of the two reunited the old possessions.

In 1597 the Lords of Aich and Windhaag were sold by Freiherr Friedrich von Prag to Lorenz Schütter . His son, Lorenz Schütter, sold Windhaag Castle to Joachim Enzmilner and Aich Castle to Michel Pernauer zu Pernegg in 1630 . The latter soon sold Aich Castle to Hilleprant Jörger . As avowed Protestants, the Jörger finally had their entire property ( Prandegg , the market in Zell, Zellhof Castle, Pranthof (Gutau municipality), Habichrigl Castle, Aich Castle and all other farms and tithes) to Gotthard von Scherffenberg (also: Schärfenberg), Mr. sell on Spielberg. However, he died relatively soon afterwards and his widow married Hans Reichard von Starhemberg in 1636 . The widow von Scherffenberg sold the castles Aich, Habichrigl and Zellhof in 1645 to her son-in-law Georg Siegmund von Salburg , the owner of Prandegg. The castle remained in the possession of this family for a longer period of time.

From 1823 the castle was spun off from the ruling association and sold to farmers. The new owner was the tower and erode the chapel and the palace was rebuilt and reduced to a peasant house floor. Georg Kranawitter bought it in 1885 and bequeathed it to his daughter (1920). In 1952, the Mayr family married, which is why the former castle is now called Mayrhof .

The former Aich Castle

construction

Despite the conversion to a farmhouse, the basic structure of a castle is still recognizable. The defense tower was removed, but there are two Schattauer coats of arms above the entrance to the building. The hall was shortened by one floor and converted into a house floor. Instead of the former large palace chapel, there is now the courtyard wall. The chapel formed the connection between the living area and the farm wing. The original entrance to the castle was by the gate tower, which is still standing today. The former outer gate is now walled up, but can be seen in the wall. Here you can still see the former moat as a swampy depression, otherwise it was filled up. The gate tower was previously only connected to the chapel and the hall with walls. The western wall was torn down and a barn was built in its place.
