Lichtenau im Mühlkreis is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Rohrbach district in the upper Mühlviertel with 484 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The responsible judicial district is Rohrbach in Upper Austria .
geography
Lichtenau im Mühlkreis lies at 553 m above sea level in the upper Mühlviertel. The extension is 5.8 km from north to south and 3.4 km from west to east. The total area is 9.9 km². 33.3% of the area is forested, 61.6% of the area is used for agriculture.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms: In blue a silver sloping bar, accompanied by two silver, six-pointed stars. The municipality colors are blue-white-blue.
history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
Population development
In 1991 the municipality had 577 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 569 inhabitants. Since both the birth balance and the migration balance were negative in the ten years up to 2011 , the population decreased to 518 in 2011.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- Lichtenau Castle : A castle complex in the Lichtenau district. A castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century, converted into a castle in the 17th century and burned down in World War II. The castle has been rebuilt since 1965 and is now privately owned.
