Neupernstein Castle

The Neuper flintlock lies in Kirchdorf an der Krems in the same district of Upper Austria (Pernsteiner Road 40).

history

A Hube zu Hanvelden is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1228. This is awarded to the Gundacker von Steyr, later it came to the Bishop of Bamberg via the Margrave of Andechs . He donated the hat to the Spital am Pyhrn Abbey . From there it was passed on as a fief. Gottfried von Truchsen donated it to the Pernstein family in 1282 . Christian von Hanvelde, a member of the lower nobility, is named as another owner in 1340. Around 1457 the Hube was owned by Lienhart Haider, keeper of Scharnstein Castle . In 1613, the Unteramtmann Hans Hauser am Hanselmayr is named as the owner according to a document from the Spital am Pyhrn Abbey. In 1647 the farm passed from Johann Michael Perger. The courtyard served as lodging for the provosts of Kremsmünster. In 1665 it is sold to Georg Christoph Haas, Kremsmünster nurse on Pernstein . Then the farm came to Kremsmünster Abbey by way of inheritance . From 1692 the Hanfeldhof served as Pernstein's administrative seat, although it was already known as the “Pflegehof” in earlier times.

Around 1770 Neupernstein was leased to the Prince of Windischgrätz . Then from 1790 the district commissioner and the administration of the tax district were housed here. Since the middle of the 19th century, the castle served as a residential building. A Count von Windischgrätz owned the castle between 1920 and 1930. From him it went back to the Kremsmünster monastery and currently to the municipality of Kirchdorf an der Krems.

Construction

In 1682 the first modifications were made to the Hanfelderhof. On behalf of the Kremsmünster Abbey, today's building was erected in 1715 according to a design by Jakob Prandtauer and completed in 1717. Since then, people have spoken of “Neupernstein Castle”. The building is still reminiscent of the original square, so it has a square floor plan and an inner courtyard. The outbuildings were built between 1771 and 1774. The abandoned chapel became a living space around this time. On the 1st floor there are remarkable stucco ceilings from the 18th century.

Today the castle, which was converted for events between 2001 and 2003, houses the “Neupernstein Castle Cultural Center”. The Landesmusikschule Kirchdorf is also located here.
