Peilstein Castle

Peilstein Castle

The Peilstein Castle is located in the same municipality in the Rohrbach District of Upper Austria (Stifterstrasse 12).

The building on the outskirts of Peilstein is striking because of its size and furnishings. Defense facilities are and were not available. This is due to the fact that the building was built in 1754 as the caretaker's seat (but never used as such). Peilstein itself belonged to the domain of the Tannberger. It is listed in the land register of the Marsbach lordship from 1667, which leads to the assumption that Peilstein came to the Passau monastery after Chunradt's death in 1354 .

After the land authority was abolished in 1848, the guardianship building was no longer needed and the house was sold to a farmer. In the first third of the 19th century, the four-wing, two-story building was extensively rebuilt around a small inner courtyard. The building is now a hook-shaped three-storey structure with a mansard hipped roof and a granite-rimmed entrance portal from 1828.
