Hall Castle

The Hall Castle is located in the town of Bad Hall in District Steyr-Land in Upper Austria (Linzer Straße 1). Today the “Seniorenwohnhaus Schloss Hall, Caritas for care and nursing” is housed here.

history

At the time of the Wittelsbach rule over Hall in the 13th century, there was probably a small castle here with several underground escape routes (remnants of it can be seen in the cellar). The castle itself was created as a "liberated aristocratic seat" in 1644 from a bourgeois house. 1654 the place and the castle by Emperor Ferdinand III. handed over to Count Maximilian von Trautmannsdorf as pledge. From this it came to his son Adam Mathias, married to Eva Johanna von Starhemberg . The next in line of the owners was their son Johann Josef, married to Countess Maria Therese von Paar. Their son Franz Norbert, married to Countess Florentia Josefa von Gavre, received the title of Reichsgraf and called himself Reichsgraf von Trautmannsdorf and Freiherr von Gleichenberg.

Hall remained in the possession of the Trautmannsorfs until 1848, when bourgeois owners followed. Julie Merzeder and Karl Masarei (1860) are known as such.

In 1941 the building was acquired by the Diocesan Caritas Association and converted into an old people's home. During the Second World War were South Tyrolean evacuees housed; In 1944 the Linz Children's Hospital was quartered here. In 1948 it was returned to Caritas and there has been a Caritas retirement home here since 1949.

The building is two-story and has a sheet metal mansard tower. The masonry is structured with plaster fins and has diamond blocks on the corners of the building.
