Aleksei Budõlin (born April 5, 1976 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Estonian judoka . He was European champion and medalist at world championships and the Olympic Games. His brother Dmitri is also a judoka.

biography

Budõlin was able to celebrate successes as a junior. In 1995 and 1996 he became European Junior Champion in the class up to 78 kg. In 1998 he won his first World Cup competition in Prague. A year later he won the silver medal in the class up to 73 kg at the European Championships. In 2000 he won the bronze medal in the class up to 81 kg at the European Championships. At the Summer Olympics he was also able to win the bronze medal in this weight class. In 2001 he became European champion and won the silver medal in the weight class up to 81 kg at the World Championships in Munich . In 2003 he won his last international medals. He won the bronze medal at both the European Championship and the World Championship.

Budõlin was able to win six World Cup competitions in his career. He celebrated his last World Cup victory in Budapest in 2005 . From 2001 to 2008 Budõlin started TSV Abensberg in the Bundesliga. In 2009 he ended his active career and has been working as a trainer ever since. He played his last international competition at the Nordic Championships in May 2009, where he won the class up to 90 kg.

Together with his brother Dimitri he ran the judo club Budolinn Judokool in Tallinn . As a coach, he looked after the junior national team and later also the national team of Estonia. In 2018 he moved with his family to Brugg in Switzerland , where he looks after the Swiss national team and the U23 team at the national performance center. His contract is scheduled to run until the 2024 Summer Olympics.
