Robert Krawczyk

Robert Krawczyk (born March 26, 1978 in Tarnowskie Góry ) is a former Polish judoka . He won a bronze light middleweight medal at the 2003 World Championships, and in 2007 he was European Champion.

Career

The 1.81 m tall Robert Krawczyk fought until 2010 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 81 kilograms (until 1997 up to 78 kilograms). Then he switched to middleweight, the weight class up to 90 kilograms. In 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2006 he was Polish light middleweight champion, 2011 and 2012 middleweight.

In 1996, Krawczyk was third at the European Junior Championships. In 1998 he finished seventh at the European Championships in the adult class. Two years later he lost to the Spaniard Ricardo Echarte in the quarter-finals of the 2000 European Championships in Wroclaw . With victories over the Portuguese Nuno Delgado , the German Dirk Radszat and the Russian Alexei Scherschnew , Krawczak won a bronze medal. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he was eliminated in his first fight against the Cuban Gabriel Arteaga . At the end of the year, Krawczyk won the world championships for students.

In 2002 at the European Championships in Maribor in 2002 , he lost in the quarter-finals against the Estonian Aleksei Budõlin . After victories over the Serb Andrija Đurišić , the Dutchman Guillaume Elmont and the Russian Lascha Pipia , Krawczyk received a bronze medal. The following year he lost to the Spaniard Ricardo Echarte at the 2003 World Championships in Osaka in the round of 16. With three wins in the round of hope, he reached the battle for bronze, which he won against the Japanese Yoshihiro Akiyama . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Krawczyk won his first three fights against the Libyan Mohamed Bensaleh , Rick Hawn from the United States and Mehman Əzizov from Azerbaijan. After a defeat against the Ukrainian Roman Hontjuk in the semi-finals and against the Brazilian Flávio Canto in the battle for bronze, the Pole finished fifth.

At the European Championships in Rotterdam in 2005 , Krawczyk lost in the quarter-finals against the British Euan Burton . After victories over the Lithuanian Radvilas Matukas , the Ukrainian Ilya Chimchiuri and the Dutch Guillaume Elmont, he received his third bronze medal at European championships. Two years later at the European Championships in Belgrade in 2007 , Krawczyk defeated the German Ole Bischof in the quarter -finals, the Slovenian Klemen Ferjan in the semifinals and the Belarusian Sjarhej Schundsikau in the final . At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Krawczyk defeated the Italian Giuseppe Maddaloni in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals he was defeated by the Brazilian Tiago Camilo and in the battle for bronze, Guillaume Elmont won. The following year, Krawczyk competed in Beijing for the third time at the Olympic Games. At the Olympic tournament he lost in the round of 16 against the South Korean Kim Jae-bum . After victories against Sjarhej Schundsikau and the Portuguese João Neto and a defeat against the Mongols Damdinsürengiin Njamchüü , Krawczyk finished in seventh place. In 2010 he was European military light middleweight champion.

In 2011 he won the silver medal in the middleweight division at the World Military Championships. In 2012 he won a bronze medal with the Polish team at the European Team Championships. In 2013 Robert Krawczyk said goodbye as an active athlete with a victory at the tournament in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. He later worked as a judo trainer in Belgium.
