Annabelle Euranie

Annabelle Euranie (born September 4, 1982 in Gonesse ) is a former French judoka . In 2003 she was second in the world championship and European champion.

Athletic career

The 1.72 m tall Annabelle Euranie fought mostly in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 2001 she was U20 European champion and took third place at the French championships behind Laëtitia Tignola and Séverine Bruneau. At the Tournoi de Paris 2002 she was defeated in the final of the Algerian Salima Souakri , at the French championships in 2002 she was second behind Emilie Harnichard . In 2003 she finished fifth at the Tournoi de Paris. At the European Championships in Düsseldorf , she defeated the Spanish Ana Carrascosa in the quarter -finals, the Polish Barbara Bukowska in the semifinals and the Slovenian Petra Nareks in the final . Four months later, the 2003 World Championships took place in Osaka . Euranie reached the final with victories over Flor Velázquez from Venezuela in the quarter-finals and over the Japanese Yuki Yokosawa in the semi-finals. In the final she was defeated by the Cuban Amarilis Savón . In 2004 Euranie again finished fifth at the Tournoi de Paris. At the European Championships in Bucharest , she was eliminated in the first round against the Dutch Natascha van Gurp . Three months later, she defeated the Romanian Ioana Dinea-Aluaș in her opening fight at the 2004 Olympic Games and the Portuguese Telma Monteiro in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals, Euranie lost to the Chinese Xian Dongmei , after another defeat against the Belgian Ilse Heylen in the battle for bronze, Euranie took fifth place. In early 2005 Annabelle Euranie won the French championships and the Tournoi de Paris. In June 2005 she won the title at the Mediterranean Games . At the European Championships in 2005 she was eliminated in the round of 16 against Barbara Bukowska, at the World Championships she was defeated by Ioana Dinea-Aluaș in the quarter-finals and the Mongolian Mönchbaataryn Bundmaa in the round of hope. In 2006 Euranie won the French championships in lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms.

In 2013 she returned to the judo mat as the mother of two children and fought again at half-light weight. In 2013 she finished third at the French championships behind Pénélope Bonna and Delphine Delsalle . In 2014 she won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku and took third place at the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi . At the European and World Championships in 2014 Euranie did not compete in singles, but won the title with the team. In 2015 the European Championships took place in Baku as part of the 2015 European Games . Annabelle Euranie reached the final with victories in the quarter-finals over Birgit Ente from the Netherlands in the quarter-finals and over the Russian Natalja Kusjutina in the semi-finals, which she lost to the Romanian Andreea Chițu . With the silver medal, Euranie had won an individual medal at European championships again after twelve years. After she was eliminated in the second round of the World Championships in Astana against Belarusian Darija Skrypnik , she won the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi six weeks later. At the end of 2015 she took third place at the Grand Slam in Tokyo , and at the beginning of 2016 at the Grand Slam in Paris . At the 2016 European Championships in Kazan, she lost to Majlinda Kelmendi from Kosovo in the semi-finals and to the Russian Julia Ryschowa in the battle for bronze . It was Annabelle Euranie's last major tournament. At the 2016 Olympics, France was represented by Priscilla Gneto .
