Periklis Papapetropoulos

Periklis Papapetropoulos ( Greek Περικλής Παπαπετρόπουλος , * 1969 in Athens ) is a Greek composer and lutenist who plays Laouto , Tanbur and Saz , among others .

Papapetropoulos grew up in Crete, where he got to know traditional Cretan music and, when he was sixteen, played Laouto in the group of Andonis Xylouris . In 1985 he met Ross Daly . He studied Saz and Tanbur with him for several years and became a member of his group Labyrinth . He is also a member of the group Passed Isolated (with Haris Lambrakis , Kostas Meretakis , Panos Dimitrakopoulos and Spyridoula Baka ) and performs in a duo with Sokratis Sinopoulos and Stelios Petrakis . He released three solo CDs and the album Saz Grubu with an orchestra of saz players from Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria. His latest album Mika only contains his own compositions.

His numerous musical partners include musicians and groups such as Mehmet Erenler , Talip Özkan , Paco Peña , Djamchid Chemirani , the Kabul Ensemble , Huun-Huur-Tu , Naseer Shamma , Dariush Talai , Hamid Reza Khabbazi , Pedram Kahavar-Zamini , Dhruba Ghosh , Rufus Cappadocia , Vasilis Soukas , Kostas Mountakis , Nikos Saragoudas , Chronis Aidonides , Giorgos Kotsinis , Domna Samiou , Christos Tsiamoulis , Christos Sikkis and Petros Tambouris .

Papapetropoulos teaches Saz and Laouto at the Pallini Experimental Music High School, the Society for the Dissemination of National Music, the Labyrinth Music Workshops and, since 2004, at the Athens Conservatory.
