Rufus Cappadocia
Rufus Cappadocia (* 1967 in Hamilton / Ontario ) is a Canadian cellist .
Life
Cappadocia started playing the cello at the age of three . He studied at McGill University in Montreal, where he discovered traditional West African and Bulgarian music in the ethnomusical library. After graduating, he got to know flamenco in southern France and Spain before settling in New York.
There he joined the Matt Darriaus The Paradox Trio , with whom he has released three albums since 1995. He also worked with Seamus Eagan , Bonga Jean-Baptiste and Vishal Vaid , was introduced to the music of the Balkans by Ross Daly and founded the fusion group Kif with David Fiuczynski . He also performed with musicians such as Aretha Franklin , Odetta , Cheick Tidiane Seck and Vernon Reid . As a duo Bethany & Rufus he appears with the singer Bethany Yarrow . In 2006 he presented the solo album Songs for a Cello with his own compositions.
