Talip Özkan
Talip Özkan (born August 2, 1939 in Denizli ; † May 27, 2010 in Izmir ) was a Turkish singer and musician.
Life
Özkan acquired his first experience with the Saz in his youth. In 1957 he joined the choir “Yurttan Sesler” (in German “Voices of the Homeland”). For the next 20 years he was active in the transmitter TRT , where he worked as a choir singer, soloist, teacher and conductor. On the saz he played different styles of Turkish folk music.
In 1976 he moved to Paris to complete his doctoral thesis in the field of ethnomusicology on rhythms in Turkish pop music at the University of Paris VIII . After graduation, he continued his work as a lecturer and died in May 2010 of a lung disease.
