Yuki Yokosawa

Yuki Yokosawa ( Japanese 横 澤 由 貴 Yokosawa Yuki ; born October 29, 1980 in Ogō , Gunma Prefecture ) is a former Japanese judoka . She won an Olympic silver medal in 2004.

Athletic career

The 1.53 m tall Yuki Yokosawa fought in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 2001 she won the title at the Asian Championships. A month later, she also won the East Asian Championships. At the 2001 World Championships in Munich, she reached the semifinals, after defeats against the North Korean Kye Sun-hui and the Cuban Legna Verdecia , she finished fifth. In 2002 she won the title at the World Team Championships with the Japanese team. At the Asian Games in Busan in 2002 , she finished fifth. The 2003 World Championships took place in Osaka. Yokosawa defeated the German Raffaella Imbriani in the quarter-finals and lost to the French Annabelle Euranie in the semi-finals . With a win over the British Georgina Singleton , Yuki Yokosawa secured a bronze medal.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she won the quarter-finals against Georgina Singleton and the semi-finals against the Cuban Amarilis Savón . In the final she lost to the Chinese Xian Dongmei by Ippon after 1:06 minutes. In 2005 Yokosawa won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Tashkent. At the 2005 World Championships in Cairo, she defeated the North Korean An Kum-ae in the round of 16 , the Slovenian Petra Nareks in the quarter-finals and the Romanian Ioana Aluaş in the semifinals . In the final she met a Chinese again, Ying Li won gold ahead of Yokosawa. In 2006, the Japanese won a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Doha.

Yokosawa won the All-Japanese Championships in 2001, 2002 and 2004. In 2007 she finished second behind Yuka Nishida and in 2008 behind Misato Nakamura , who then competed at the season highlight for Japan.
