Xian Dongmei ( Chinese  冼 東 妹 ; born September 15, 1975 in Sihui ) is a former Chinese judoka who was Olympic champion in the weight class up to 52 kilograms in 2004 and 2008.

Career

Xian Dongmei won her first international medal in November 1993 when she won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Macau. In January 1995 she took third place at the international tournament in Moscow. In November 1995 she reached the final at the Asian Championships in New Delhi, but lost there against the South Korean Park Mi-ja .

It was not until April 2000 that Xian Dongmei achieved her next major success when she won the Chinese national championship in Qingdao. Only third place at the Chinese championships reached Liu Yuxiang , who represented China at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and won the bronze medal there.

In September 2001, Xian Dongmei won the 2001 Summer Universiade in Beijing. In 2002 she took part in the Asian Games in Busan and finished second behind the Korean Lee Eun-hee . In February 2004, Xian Dongmei won two world cup tournaments in Paris and Hamburg. At the Asian Championships in Almaty in May 2004, she lost in the final against Lee Eun-hee. In August 2004, Xian Dongmei took part in the Olympic Games in Athens . In her first fight against the Algerian Salima Souakri she only won in extra time and in the semifinals against the German Raffaella Imbriani she needed more than four minutes. In the final round she won against the French Annabelle Euranie just as prematurely through Ippon as in the final against the Japanese Yuki Yokosawa .

After the birth of their daughter, Xian Dongmei returned to the national team at the 2007 World Team Championships in Beijing. The Chinese team won the title at this dress rehearsal for the 2008 Olympic Games. In February 2008 she won the world cup tournaments in Paris and Budapest. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she won her opening fight against the Spaniard Ana Carrascosa as well as the semifinals against the Portuguese Telma Monteiro and the fight for the final against the Algerian Soraya Haddad . Only in the final against the North Korean An Kum-ae she had to fight for the full five minutes and then won by a Yuko rating.

The 1.58 m tall Xian Dongmei competed in all of her international competitions in the half-light weight category, up to 52 kilograms.
