Liu Yuxiang

Liu Yuxiang ( Chinese  刘玉香 ; born October 11, 1975 in Hengshang ) is a former Chinese judoka who won an Olympic bronze medal in 2000.

In 1996, the 1.59 m tall Liu Yuxiang took third place in the lightweight at the student world championships. From 1999 to 2003 she then competed at half-light weight. At the Asian Championships in 1999 she finished second behind the North Korean Kye Sun-hui . Three and a half months later she just missed the medal ranks as fifth at the World Championships in Birmingham , in the battle for the bronze medal she was defeated by Kye Sun-hui. In 2000 the Chinese won the Tournoi de Paris . Although Liu Yuxiang was only third in the 2000 Chinese Championships, she was nominated for the Sydney Olympic Games . In Sydney she lost to the Japanese Noriko Narazaki in the semifinals, in the battle for the bronze medal she won against the Dutchwoman Deborah Gravenstijn . The following year, Liu Yuxiang lost to the Japanese Yuki Yokosawa in the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Munich . With two wins in the round of hope, she reached the battle for bronze against the Algerian Salima Souakri , which the Chinese won. Liu Yuxiang won her last international championship medal in 2004 when she defeated the Mongolian Chischigbatyn Erdenet-Od in the final of the Asian Championships . At the Olympic Games in Athens , Liu Yuxiang also competed in the lightweight, but retired in her second fight against the Brazilian Danielle Zangrando .
