Wolfgang Theile

Wolfgang Theile (born January 28, 1937 in Elsterwerda ; † July 13, 2018 in Ravensburg ) was a German Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Theile graduated from high school in Wuppertal in 1958 . He studied Romance and English at the universities of Marburg , Caen , Tübingen and Perugia . With the work of René Ghil. An analysis of his poetry and theoretical writings he received his doctorate in 1965 in Tübingen by Kurt Wais . Then he was a research assistant in Mannheim . In 1972 he completed his habilitation there under Egon Huber with the work The Racine Critique to 1800. The History of Critique as a Functional History (Munich 1974) and was Walter Mönch's professor in Tübingen from 1973 to 1975 . In 1977 he was appointed professor in Mannheim. From 1978 until his retirement in 2002 he was Professor of Romance Literature at the University of Bamberg , from 1978 to 1980 also Dean, from 1980 to 1984 also Senator. He was a member of the founding committee of the University of Erfurt (1992–1993).
