Bolintin-Vale is a town in Giurgiu County in the historical region of Great Wallachia in Romania .
Geographical location
Bolintin-Vale is located in the Wallachian Plain on the left bank of the Argeș River . The district capital Giurgiu is located about 65 km southeast; the state capital Bucharest is located 25 km east of Bolintin-Vale.
history
Bolintin-Vale was first mentioned in a document in 1433. In 1821 the Romanian revolutionary Tudor Vladimirescu proclaimed the struggle against Ottoman domination. In 1989 Bolintin-Vale received city status. In 1991, following riots by ethnic Romanians against the Roma minority, numerous Roma fled to Bolintin-Vale from the neighboring municipality of Bolintin-Deal , whereupon riots broke out here too, with the destruction of several Roma houses.
The city's main industries are agriculture, construction, and oil and gas production.
population
In the 2002 census, 11,702 inhabitants were registered in the city, including 9890 Romanians and 1808 Roma. About 7000 lived in Bolintin-Vale, the rest in the three cadastral parishes. Bolintin-Vale is one of the cities in Romania with the highest proportion of Roma (2296 in 2011). 1000 of these Roma have moved to Halle / Saale by 2019 .

Bolintin-Vale has no rail connection. There are bus connections to Bucharest several times a day. The Romanian A1 motorway runs on the northern outskirts of the city .
