Tudor Vladimirescu (* around 1780 in Vladimir, Gorj county , Wallachia , May 27 † . Jul / 8. June  1821 greg. In Targoviste ) was a Romanian revolutionary. He was the leader of the Wallachian uprising of 1821.

Tudor was probably born in 1780 in Vladimir in Gorj County into a peasant family. He was a boyar's manager . From 1806 to 1812 he took part in the Russo-Turkish War on the Russian side as a member and commander of the Pandur Corps . Later he joined the Philike Hetairia . In 1821 Tudor Vladimirescu placed himself at the head of a revolutionary movement against the feudal system and Turkish domination and was the leader of a popular uprising in Wallachia and Moldova. On March 29, 1821, Bucharest was occupied by him. The subsequent negotiations with the aim of preventing the entry of Turkish troops into Bucharest were viewed by Alexandros Ypsilantis as treason. As a result, he had Vladimirescu arrested and executed.

Order of Tudor Vladimirescu

The Romanian order Tudor Vladimirescu has been awarded since 1966 in five classes for special merits in the achievement and defense of the social and state order.

On February 28, 1986, the PiB-8 of the NVA ( Pioneer Battalion of the National People's Army of the GDR ) was given the name of the Romanian national hero "Tudor Vladimirescu" in the presence of the Romanian ambassador and military attaché .
