Mihăileşti is a small town in Giurgiu County in Great Wallachia in Romania .
location
Mihăileşti is located in the Wallachian Plain on the right bank of the Argeş River . The district capital Giurgiu is located about 50 km south, the state capital Bucharest 20 km northeast.
history
Archaeological finds confirm that the area has been settled since the Bronze Age . In the Popeşti district , the remains of a Getic - Dacian fortress were discovered.
Mihăileşti, which had long been a village, developed into a suburb of the Romanian capital in the course of the expansion from Bucharest. In the 1980s, the Argeș was dammed in the immediate vicinity of the village. This reservoir is to date (2009) the only completed project of the Bucharest-Danube Canal planned by Nicolae Ceaușescu . In 1987 Mihăileşti was declared a city. After the revolution of 1989 , shopping centers and other service companies emerged, which led to a rapid increase in prosperity, but also to higher property prices. In May 2008 Mihăileşti was described as a "city without unemployed people".
population
In the 2002 census, 7,490 inhabitants were registered in the city, including 7,241 Romanians and 241 Roma . About 4500 lived in Mihăileşti itself, the rest in the three cadastral communities.
traffic
Mihăileşti has no rail connection. There are bus connections to Bucharest several times a day.
