Evelyne Tschopp

Evelyne Tschopp (born June 19, 1991 in Muttenz ) is a Swiss judoka . She won bronze medals at the European Championships in 2017 and 2018.

Career

The 1.62 m tall Evelyne Tschopp fought from 2010 to 2014 in the lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms. In 2013 she was fifth in the U23 European Championships. In 2015 she switched to half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. She won a bronze medal at the 2015 Universiade in Gwangju. At the Grand Slam tournament in Paris , Tschopp reached the final in 2015, where she lost to Majlinda Kelmendi from Kosovo. In 2016 she finished fifth at the European Championships . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she won her opening fight against the French Priscilla Gneto , but was eliminated in the round of 16 against Majlinda Kelmendi. At the end of 2016 Evelyne Tschopp won her first Swiss championship title.

At the European Championships 2017 in Warsaw, Tschopp lost to Kelmendi in the quarter-finals, and Tschopp won a bronze medal with victories in the hoping round against Larisa Florian from Azerbaijan and Odette Giuffrida from Italy. A year later she reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Tel Aviv and lost there against the Russian Natalja Kusjutina . In the battle for bronze, Tschopp defeated the Hungarian Reka Pupp . At the 2018 World Championships Tschopp defeated Beka Rupp in her opening match and was eliminated in the round of 16 against Natalja Kusjutina.
