Amandine Buchard

Amandine Buchard (born July 12, 1995 in Noisy-le-Sec ) is a French judoka . She won bronze at the World Judo Championships in 2014 and 2018.

Athletic career

Until August 2014, Amandine Buchard mainly competed in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms. In 2011 she was second in the European Cadet Championships and third in the U17 World Championships. In 2012 Buchard won her first French championship in the adult class. In 2013 she was fifth in the European Junior Championships and won bronze at the U21 World Championships. At the end of the year she won her second French championship title and the Grand Prix tournament in Abu Dhabi. At the European Championships in Montpellier in 2014 , she reached the final with a victory over the Ukrainian Maryna Cherniak , where she was defeated by the Hungarian Éva Csernoviczki . Four months later at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk, she defeated Maryna Cherniak in the quarterfinals. After her semi-final defeat against the Argentine Paula Pareto , she defeated the Russian Alesia Kuznetsova in the battle for a bronze medal . Two months after the World Championships, in October 1952, she won the half-light weight title at the U21 World Championships, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. She has been fighting in this weight class ever since.

After two weaker years, she won the team European title with the French team in 2017. She finished seventh at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest after losing to Kosovar Majlinda Kelmendi in the quarter-finals . At the end of 2017 she won the French championship title. At the beginning of 2018, Buchard lost to the Japanese Uta Abe in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris . At the European Championships in 2018 , she was eliminated in her first fight against the Romanian Andreea Chițu . Five months later, she reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Baku and lost to Uta Abe. With a victory over the Belgian Charline Van Snick, Buchard won a bronze medal. In 2019 she won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku. The 2019 European Championships were held as part of the 2019 European Games in Minsk. Buchard lost in the semi-finals to Majlinda Kelmendi, in the battle for bronze she beat the Italian Odette Giuffrida . Three days after her individual medal, she won bronze in the team competition with the French team.
