Bogusława Olechnowicz

Bogusława Barbara Olechnowicz-Dzierżak (born November 22, 1962 in Słupsk ) is a former Polish judoka . She won three European championship titles and seven Polish national championship titles.

Athletic career

The 1.62 m tall judoka competed internationally in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 61 kilograms. In 1982 she took part in the World Championships in Paris for the first time , but was eliminated in her first fight against the Dutch Chantal Han . She won her first European title at the 1985 European Championships in Landskrona, where she defeated Ann Hughes from Britain in the semifinals and Gabriele Ritschel from Germany in the final . In 1986 at the World Championships in Maastricht she was defeated in the quarter-finals by the French Celine Géraud and in the battle for bronze from the New Zealander Donna Guy , so that she finished fifth. In 1987 she won her second title at the European Championships in Paris by beating Chita Gross from the Netherlands in the final . At the 1987 World Championships in Essen, she lost to Lynn Roethke from the United States in the semi-finals , and in the battle for bronze she defeated the Portuguese Teresa Gaspar . During the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, women's judo was held as a demonstration competition. At the Olympic tournament, Bogusława Olechnowicz lost to Lynn Roethke in the semifinals as at the World Championships last year; As in the previous year, she defeated Teresa Gaspar in the battle for bronze, where the fight lasted only 15 seconds. At the end of 1988 Olechnowicz won a bronze medal at the world championships for students.

After a two-year break, Bogusława Olechnowicz returned to the mat in late 1990 and took third place at the Fukuoka Cup . In 1991 she retired early at both the European Championships in Prague and the World Championships in Barcelona . At the European Championships in Paris in 1992 , she defeated the French Catherine Fleury in the semifinals and won her third European title in the final with a victory over the German Frauke Eickhoff . At the Olympic premiere of women's judo at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Olechnowicz was defeated by the British Diane Bell with a small score in her first fight .
