Donna Guy

Donna Guy (born November 1, 1961 ) is a former New Zealand judoka who won a bronze medal in the light middleweight division (up to 61 kilograms) at the 1986 World Championships .

Athletic career

Donna Guy won a total of 13 New Zealand championship titles, three times she was Oceania champion. At the 1984 World Championships in Vienna, she lost to Birgit Blum from Liechtenstein in her opening match . At the Commonwealth Games in 1986 she reached the final and was defeated there by the Englishwoman Diane Bell . Three months later at the World Championships in Maastricht, Donna Guy lost to French Celine Géraud in the semifinals , but won the battle for a bronze medal against Bogusława Olechnowicz from Poland . In 1987 she lost to the Austrian Renate Lehner in her first fight at the World Championships in Essen .

At the 1988 Summer Olympics , women's judo competitions were offered as a demonstration sport. At the Olympic tournament , Donna Guy lost first to Diane Bell and then to the Japanese Noriko Mochida . In 1990 Guy reached the final at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in front of a home crowd and lost to Diane Bell there.
