Anja von Rekowski

Anja von Rekowski , after marrying Anja Scheffer , (born on December 13, 1975 in Celle ) is a former German judoka who was runner-up in the middleweight division in 1997.

Career

The 1.72 m tall Anja von Rekowski started from 1994 to 1997 in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. In 1996 she finished second behind the French Isabelle Beauruelle at the Tournoi de Paris . At the European Championships in The Hague in 1996, she won a bronze medal. In her first fight at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she defeated the Italian Emanuela Pierantozzi by Ippon after 2:41 minutes. In her second fight she was defeated by the British Rowena Sweatman with a coca rating. In 1997 she won her only German championship title. At the 1997 World Championships in Paris she defeated the Czech Radka Štusáková , the Chinese Wang Xianbo , the French Isabelle Beauruelle and in the semifinals the Spanish Úrsula Martín . In the final she was defeated by the British Kate Howey .

After the reorganization of the weight classes, Anja von Rekowski started in 1998 in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 63 kilograms. In 1999 she won the World Cup tournament in Munich. At the European Championships in Bratislava in 1999 she lost to the Italian Jenny Gal in the quarterfinals . With three wins in the hopes she won a bronze medal. The following year she was seventh at the European Championships in Wroclaw. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, Anja von Rekowski defeated the Tunisian Saida Dhahri and the British Karen Roberts . In the semifinals she lost to the later Olympic champion Séverine Vandenhende from France, in the battle for a bronze medal she was defeated by the Belgian Gella Vandecaveye .

Anja von Rekowski started for PSV Braunschweig and JT Hannover . In 1995 she graduated from the Hermann-Billung-Gymnasium in Celle . She then studied at the Hannover Medical School , completed her doctorate in 2003 and works as a general practitioner in Braunschweig. Anja Scheffer is married and has four children.
