Yvonne Wansart

Yvonne Wansart (born May 21, 1974 in Cologne ) is a former German judoka who was European champion in 1997.

Athletic career

The 1.76 m tall Yvonne Wansart fought in the middleweight division. Up until 1997 this was the weight class up to 66 kilograms, from 1998 the upper limit was 70 kilograms. In 1996 Wansart won the British Open. In 1997 she finished second behind Anja von Rekowski at the German Championships . Two months later, the 1997 European Championships took place in Ostend . Wansart defeated the British Kate Howey in the quarter-finals and the Italian Emanuela Pierantozzi in the semi-finals . In the final she won the title against the Spaniard Úrsula Martín .

In 1998 Wansart won the German championship title. At the European Championships in 1998 , she was eliminated in her first fight against the French Carine Varlez . in autumn 1998 Wansart won a bronze medal at the world championships for students. In 1999 she won the World Cup tournament in Munich. At the European Championships in Bratislava in 1999, Wansart was defeated in the quarter-finals by Russian Julija Kusina . With victories over the Slovenian Maja Frece , the Portuguese Catarina Rodrigues and the Ukrainian Tetiana Beliajewa, Wansart won a bronze medal. Four and a half months later at the 1999 World Championships in Birmingham, she lost to Kate Howey in the round of 16. With three wins in the round of hope, she reached the battle for bronze, which she lost to the Italian Ylenia Scapin . Shortly after the world championships, Wansart won her second German championship title. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, Wansart defeated the French Karine Rambault and lost in the round of 16 after twelve seconds to the eventual Olympic champion Sibelis Veranes from Cuba. In the hope round she defeated Sandra Bacher from the United States and lost to Ylenia Scapin. In the end she took seventh place. In 2002 Yvonne Wansart reached the final at the German Championships again and lost to Annett Böhm .

With the ASG Elsdorf team , Yvonne Wansart was German champion in 1998, 2001 and 2002 .
