Catarina Rodrigues

Catarina Rodrigues (born January 3, 1973 ) is a former Portuguese judoka who was third in the 2001 World Cup.

Catarina Rodrigues fought mostly in the middleweight division until 2000. When the upper weight limit in this weight class was 66 kilograms, she won five times at the Portuguese championships from 1991 to 1995, in 1996 and 1997 she was second. In 1998 and 1999 she was middleweight champion up to 70 kilograms. In 2000 she was heavyweight champion, in 2003 and 2004 she won both heavyweight and open classes.

Internationally she finished fifth at the European Championships in 1993 , 1994 and 1995 , and in 1996 she reached seventh place. In 1999 and 2000 she was also seventh. She had all of her previous placements in the middleweight division, so she entered the 2001 European light heavyweight championships and also took seventh place here. At the 2001 World Championships in Munich, she was eliminated in the light heavyweight division after a quarter-final defeat against the French Celine Lebrun in the round of hope. In the open class she reached the semi-finals and was defeated by the British Karina Bryant . Rodrigues won a bronze medal with a win over the German Katja Gerber . At the European Championships in Maribor in 2002 , she finished fifth in the light heavyweight division and seventh in the open class.

After her career, she became the sports director of the European Judo Union , the only woman besides three sports directors.
