Ylenia Scapin (born January 8, 1975 in Bozen ) is a former Italian judoka .

CV and achievements

Ylenia Scapin started judo at the age of six. She achieved her first successes at the Italian youth games Giochi della Gioventù and at the 1990 Youth Olympics in Brussels and later with bronze at the Junior World Championships.

Ylenia Scapin competed in the 72 kg class. After the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, she switched to the 70 kg class. At the Olympic Games , the South Tyrolean won the bronze medal twice: 1996 in Atlanta in the class up to 72 kg and in 2000 in Sydney in the class up to 70 kg. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Athens , she failed in the first round.

She also won bronze twice at the World Championships, in 1999 in Birmingham and in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro . In 2008 in Lisbon she became European champion; At the European Championships in 1999 and 2005 she won silver , in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006 bronze. She also won gold at the 2001 Mediterranean Games and the 2003 Military World Championships.

In 2009, Ylenia Scapin retired from active sports when she became a mother.
