Gerhard Dempf

Gerhard Dempf (born January 24, 1979 in Schwabmünchen ) is a former German judoka who was student world champion in 2004.

Athletic career

The 1.95 m tall Gerhard Dempf fought in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 90 kilograms. After a third place at the German Championships in 2001, he reached the finals in 2002 and finished second behind Sven Helbing . In 2003 he retired from the European Championships in the round of hope and was defeated at the World Championships in the round of 16 against the British Winston Gordon . At the German Championships in 2003 he took third place.

In 2004 he finished second behind the Italian Francesco Lepre at the World Cup tournament in Minsk and won the World Cup tournament in Tbilisi a week later. At the European Championships in 2004 , he was eliminated in his second fight. In July 2004 he finished second behind Winston Gordon at the German Open. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he lost his opening match against the Dutchman Mark Huizinga after 57 seconds. At the end of 2004 the World Student Championships took place in Moscow, where Gerhard Dempf won the final against the Russian Tagir Chaibulajew . In 2005 Dempf was third at the World Cup in Rome and also third at the German Championships.

Gerhard Dempf fought for TSV Munich Großhadern in the Judo Bundesliga .
