Winston Gordon

Winston Alanzo Gordon (born November 9, 1976 in Wandsworth , London ) is a former British judoka . He was fifth in the 2004 Olympics and third in the 2006 European Championship.

Athletic career

The 1.87 m tall Winston Gordon fought in the middleweight division. In 1996 he was third in the European Junior Championships. In 1998 he finished seventh at the European Championships in Oviedo , and in 1999 he was seventh at the European Championships in Bratislava . In 2002 he lost to the Georgian Surab Swiadauri in the battle for bronze at the European Championships in Maribor . At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 , Gordon defeated the Canadian Keith Morgan in the final . Two years later at the Olympic Games in Athens , Gordon defeated the Brazilian Carlos Honorato in the quarter-finals . After losing to Surab Swiadauri in the semi-finals and the Dutchman Mark Huizinga in the battle for bronze, Gordon finished fifth.

2006 at the European Championships in Tampere Gordon was defeated in the quarter-finals to the Russian Ivan Perschin . With two wins in the hope round he reached the battle for bronze, which he won against the Pole Krzysztof Weglarz . In 2007 Winston Gordon finished seventh at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , he retired in his first fight against the Uzbek Xurshid Nabiev . Four years later he reached the second round at the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he was defeated by the Russian Kirill Denisov .

After his career, Winston Gordon became a coach. He trained at TSV Großhadern and was then a full-time trainer at the Olympic base in Munich.
